January 2018 - A New Year, A New You?
As we have said "goodbye" to the old year, many of us will have been making New Year's Resolutions. Some will perhaps go on diets, whilst others may join a local gym. I can't help but wonder if this is a great excuse for us ladies to rethink our wardrobes or even buy a new gym kit!
But thinking about this reminded me of two letters in the New Testament in which Paul spoke of wearing Christ like a piece of clothing: Galatians 3: 27; "for all of yopu were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ", and Romans 13: 14; which says "clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ".
Whilst these words might make some people think of casting off an old life and beginning a new one, it might also suggest that we become more Christ-like by taking on some of his character traits, such as patience, humility, forgiveness, self control and love - to name but a few. These traits also serve to remind us of how we can become united together as families and in fellowship by entering or forging new relatioships or lives together.
As the New Year begins, perhaps we can start to rethink and adopt new attitudes. Then we will start to discover what we can do together, rather than simply as individuals. Through this we can bring together people in our communities, and beyond, so that no-one is alone and everyone is valued.
Life is better when we help each other, in a community where everyone shares their time, skills and knowledge with everyone else.
