The Church's Year
Without Easter there would be no Christian faith, no Church, no Bible or Christian history - and without Easter you would not be visiting our website or reading this! Easter is the ‘Queen of Seasons’, the time of greatest joy.
Every Sunday is a little Easter, for every Sunday is a celebration of the Rising Again of Jesus from the dead.
A special, large candle, called the Paschal or Easter Candle, burns in many churches at every service over the Easter season - a symbol of the presence of the Risen Jesus.
Unlike Christmas, Easter Day is not a fixed date, because it depends on when the new moon nearest to the Jewish Passover falls.
Also, Easter is observed at slightly different times by different Christian traditions.
