March 2012 - Love Eternal Never Tires

There is nothing I like more than a good family knees-up for it is an expression of love and happiness with the people I share my most intimate life with. Of course it can also be a painful experience because, where human love fails, emotions get terribly out of kilter. Then the road to happiness becomes hard, reconciliations become difficult and avoidance seems the only way to achieve an awkward peace.

Human love has been tested and found wanting. This happens at every level of society; secular and religious. In these testing times, when society seems to be argumentative and the Anglican Church argues over women bishops, homosexuality issues and the divisions within the Christian world-wide family, fallible human love needs all the help it can get.

The season of Lent is a time when we especially remember a man despised and rejected by his society, who could still lovingly say, “Love your enemies and do good to those who hurt you”. This same man; Jesus of Nazareth, could say, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” and then die on a cross for us.

It does not matter whether we are religious or not, the love that drives such a man is worthy of our consideration. He shows us that Love eternal never tires. Thus, LENT is available to all who want it – all we need do is ask for it and use it in all our disputes. Then the way to true reconciliation and love will become much easier and more enduring.

The love of the Lord be in all your disputes.
